Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (hereinafter refers to as HSK) is a national examination which tests the Chinese proficiency of non-native Chinese speakers. HSK test scores and certificates have become important criteria to evaluate Chinese proficiency of international students. To improve the standard and quality of degree education, as required by the Ministry of Education of China, UIBE requests all international degree students to reach certain HSK levels as follows:

 

I. Programs offered in Chinese:

1. Majors of Chinese Language Learning: Undergraduate and postgraduate students who study Chinese language related majors, such as Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages and Chinese Language and Literature, are required to pass HSK 6 with a total score of 190.

2. Other Majors: Undergraduates are required to get a GPA of 2.0 for Chinese language courses or to pass HSK 5 with a total score of 210 or HSK 6 with a total score of 180.Master and doctoral students are required to pass HSK 5 with a total score of 210 or HSK 6 with a total score of 180.

 

I. Programs offered in English

1.  Undergraduates are required to pass HSK 4 with a total score of 180. Master and doctoral students are required to pass HSK 3 with a total score of 180.

2.  The regulation shall come into force from the date of revision. It will be enforced from the 2019 graduates in Chinese taught programs and the 2018 new students in the English taught programs.
