Application Guidelines for the Sino-US Cultural Scholarship in UIBE

 

1. Introduction

This program is sponsored by the Ministry of Education of China and governed by China Scholarship Council, in response toformer President Barack Obama's proposal of sending 100,000 American students to study in China. The degree-study scholarship provides full funds for full-time American undergraduate, master or doctoral candidates admitted by the designated Chinese universities.

2. Eligibility

(1) Applicants must be American citizens in good health;

(2) Applicants should meet the following eligibility requirements: not be a registered student in Chinese universities at the time of application; or be a graduate from Chinese universities for more than one year;

(3) Education background and age limit:

Applicants for bachelor’s degree studies must have a high school diploma and be under the age of 25.

Applicants for master's degree studies must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35.

Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40.

4. Duration of scholarship

The scholarship awardees' academic performance will be assessed each year and only those achieving the required standard will have their scholarship renewed for the following year.

5. Scholarship details

 Exemption from tuition fee;

 Accommodation on campus or providing accommodation monetary subsidy;  

 Living allowance: RMB 2,500/month/person for undergraduates; RMB 3,000/month/person for master's students; RMB 3,500 /month /person for doctoral students; 

 Comprehensive medical insurance; 

 International travel expenses: Self-afforded.

6. Application deadline: Jan.1st to April 10thevery year.

7. Application procedures

l  Applicants shall make online application at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn(Choose Program Category Type B and the Agency No. of UIBE: 10036) download and print out the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship and then sign the form. Hand-writing version is invalid.

  •   Applicants are required to make another online application at www.uibe.cn. Please download and print out the International Student Application Form generated upon successful online application.

l  Submission of application documents: Send by post to UIBE’s Admissions Office by April 15 every year the two application forms and other required documents. Application Materials

UIBE application formwhich should be completed in Chinese or English and then printed out after successful online application.

Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarshipin Chinese or English(in duplicate).

Highest degree certificate (notarized copy in English or Chinese) (in duplicate). Applicants who are currently studying at university should provide a study certificate. Certificate in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translation in Chinese or English.

Note: Applicants who have provided a study certificate should submit a notarized copy of their final degree to the UIBE Admissions Office before the specified registration date (Mid-September); failure to do so will result in disqualification of enrollment.

Academic transcripts. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translation in Chinese or English. Note: For doctoral program application, academic transcripts relating to master's and Bachelor’s study should be furnished.

Study or research plan (minimum 1,000 words) in Chinese or English.

Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors.

A copy of TOEFL 90 above or IELTS 6.0 above or official letter of English proficiency for programs offered in English, or a copy of HSK level 5 at least for Master and Doctoral program offered in Chinese. English native speaker doesn’t need English proficiency certificate.

A photocopy of your valid passport.

photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed in Chinese or English. (The original is to be retained by the applicant.)

Note: Applicants are expected to submit a complete set of application materials. Incomplete application materials will be rejected. No application materials will be returned, regardless of the outcome of the application.

Applicants are expected to keep their phones open and check their email regularly as UIBE Admissions Office will contact them when necessary.

8. Selection and notification

Scholarship decisions will be made on the basis of the applicants’ application documents, academic performance, overall merits, research achievements and supervisors’ comments.

The final list of nominees will be submitted to China Scholarship Council for final approval. The result will be published on the website of the Admissions Office (http://www.uibe.cn) in end-June each year. Scholarship awardees will be notified via email and their Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) will be sent out as soon as possible.
