The School of Insurance at University of International Business and Economics is one of the earliest institutions in China to offer professional education and research in insurance. Since 1951, the School has been continuously engaged in teaching and research in insurance theory and practice. It was formally established as the School of Insurance in 2007 through the integration of the former insurance programs of UIBE and the former China Institute of Finance. Over more than seventy years of development, the School has become an important national center for research and policy consultation in risk management and insurance, actuarial science, social security, and labor economics (health economics).
As a participant in China’s “Double First-Class” initiative, the School has developed a complete and internationally oriented education system spanning undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. At the undergraduate level, it offers programs in Risk Management and Insurance, Actuarial Science, and Labor and Social Security, as well as an elite actuarial program under the national top talent training initiative. Graduate education includes academic master’s programs in Finance, Actuarial Science, and Labor Economics, a professional master’s program in Insurance, doctoral programs in related fields, and a postdoctoral research station in Applied Economics.
The School consists of three academic departments and three research centers, covering risk management and insurance, actuarial science, labor and social security, health insurance and health economics, insurance law, and social security law. It maintains extensive academic and student training partnerships with leading universities worldwide, including the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton School), Michigan State University, Temple University, the University of Manchester, the University of Kent, Frankfurt University, and Yokohama National University.
The School was among the earliest in mainland China to receive exemptions for the UK actuarial examinations and is a member of the Society of Actuaries University Candidate Program (UCAP), with VEE course accreditation granted by the Society of Actuaries (SOA).
